Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. Your video content is processed securely and is not stored permanently on our servers after transcription is complete. Transcripts and research data you choose to save to your TokScript account are stored until you delete them.

Chrome Extension

The TokScript Chrome extension ("the Extension") handles data differently from our web platform. This section describes what the Extension collects, how it is handled, where it is stored, and what is shared.

What the Extension collects. While you browse tiktok.com, the Extension reads publicly available profile and video information (such as follower counts, video view counts, like, comment, share, and save counts, captions, and posting dates) from data TikTok's servers already deliver to your browser as part of normal browsing. Comment data is limited to counts; the Extension does not collect the text of comments. To power your research history, the Extension also keeps a local record of the creator profiles you have visited on TikTok, the search terms you have used on TikTok, and your recent research activity. The Extension additionally collects TikTok video URLs you paste into the Bulk Link Import feature, and your TokScript account information (email address) when you sign in, which we use to link your research to your account and provide sync. When you sign in to your TokScript account inside the Extension using email and password, those credentials are transmitted securely to TokScript's servers to validate your account; the Extension stores session tokens, not your password. You can also sign in with Google, in which case the Extension never handles a password at all. On websites other than TikTok, the Extension does not read page content; it only receives links you choose to paste into the Bulk Link Import popup. The Extension makes no network requests to TikTok. It does not collect your TikTok password or login credentials, your private messages, or any data from accounts or content you could not otherwise see in your browser.

How it is handled. Analytics such as view statistics, engagement rates, and posting patterns are computed locally in your browser. When you request a transcript or use the export, import, or sync features, the video URL and related public video information are sent to TokScript's servers for the sole purpose of processing your request.

Where it is stored. Data the Extension collects is stored locally on your device in your browser (IndexedDB). You control how long it is kept: 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, or keep forever, and you can clear all locally stored data at any time from the Extension's settings. Data is stored in your TokScript account only when you explicitly copy a transcript, export, import links, or sync. Data saved to your TokScript account is retained until you delete it from your dashboard or delete your account; you can also request deletion at any time by emailing privacy@tokscript.com.

What is shared. We do not sell or trade data collected by the Extension. Data sent to TokScript's servers is used only to provide the service you requested, subject to the Data Sharing section above. TokScript's use and transfer of information received from the Extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: data collected by the Extension is used only to provide and improve the Extension's core functionality, is not sold to third parties, is not used or transferred for purposes unrelated to that functionality, is not used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes, and is not read by humans except with your consent, for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or in aggregated and anonymized form for internal operations.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
